Dress in layers, with waist, underarms and legs covered. Please no clothing with zippers or other scratchy details, as it can damage equipment. Aerial requires a lot of energy! Bring water and maybe a small snack in case you need a boost.
A word about my teaching philosophy:
I love aerial, and I love sharing what I've learned about it over the years. I treat every student that comes my way with the respect and care a future artistic collaborator deserves. I have a huge interest in cultivating a community of amazing aerialists to work with. I believe that building strength, flexibility and confidence, as well as learning a vocabulary of moves on the equipment are really just the first steps toward the really good stuff. The REAL fun comes in finding your own artistic "voice," playing on the apparatus, making up moves and developing artistic and social communities! For these reasons, I am very generous with my knowledge. I want to get you up to speed quickly, safely and enjoyably! I have also been amazed over the years at the positive changes that happen in people when they find themselves becoming very strong physically. I believe that strong bodies support strong minds and spirits, helping us contribute to making the world a better place!
Adult classes
Aerial Intro
I have put lots of thought, attention, experience and love into this
six-week series. I am heavily invested in starting new aerialists off
on the right foot. We cover basic vocabulary on static trapeze, dance
trapeze, rope, fabric and hoop. I dedicate a lot of time to
improvisation, how to approach the art, field and community of aerial,
as well as form, safety, and injury prevention. Extensive handouts
provided!
Mondays March 1-April 5
7-9 pm
$200
Quick-and-Dirty Aerial Intro
Do you have commitment issues? Is a six-week class too much for
you, and yet you feel called to dip your toes into the metaphoric
bubble-bath of aerial arts? This three-hour quickie class is for you!
We'll dabble on all the usual suspects: static trapeze, dance
trapeze, rope, fabric and hoop. Plus we'll try out a few more unusual
pieces of apparatus created by Mark Appleton Stevens and Lara Lee
Rasberry. Critical issues of safety, injury prevention, artistry and
manners will be addressed as well.
Two dates are available
February 15, 7 to 10 pm
February 18, 7 to 10 pm
Cost is $40
Sculptural Aerial Weekend
New and exciting pieces from Mark and Lara. The "Calder," the
"Squaresnake," the "Oskarmaier," and the Chickenrootsproutfoot. I'll
leave you to guess what that might be, but we'll be playing around
with them the weekend of April 17 and 18. Different sculptures on
each day.
April 17, 1-4 pm
April 18, 1-4 pm
$40 for each day, or $70 for both days.
Making Peace With the Fabric
Yes, you heard right. I am teaching a fabric class. We will make
an effort to take the apparatus to new places.
